MEDIATORS

Fundamental to our service is our team of friendly, approachable, enthusiastic and dedicated mediators. Since the service was formed in 1995 we have trained over 140 local people in core mediation skills.

Our mediators come from all walks of life and bring many qualities and skills with them, acquired through their work outside the service or through their life experiences. They all have a desire to work with and give back to the local community and they give up their time to do so.

Upon joining our service mediators will attend and pass the training course in Community Mediation which is approved by the College of Mediators. This training is supplemented with regular training and support sessions provided by our service. In addition, led by our Training and Development Co-ordinator, mediators will be encouraged and supported to reach Competent Mediator Status in Community Mediation, a qualification which is recognised by the College of Mediators.

Our Neighbourhood and Intergenerational mediators generally work in pairs and are co-ordinated and supported by the team at the mediation office.

Our family mediators, that is those who carry out mediation for divorced and separated couples, are all Family Mediation Council Accredited Family Mediators, the fully-qualified status for family mediators in England and Wales, or they hold family mediation accreditation with the Law Society.
